Maybe this doesn't exactly count, since it's not near where I live. But it's one of the best signs I've ever seen and one that counted for many giggles on our recent vacation in Dominica. We kept seeing signs all over the island -- "If you know better, you must know" -- and kept scratching our heads at the mysterious wording. It was only several days later that we came upon the motherlode, the main Best Buy on the island, with its full and complete wording.

Best Buy, by the way, has nothing to do with the American version and is, for western eyes, sadly lacking in best buys.

Giant... Strawberry?

And you thought only Americans did the "Biggest giantest best" shtick! This giant strawberry is an actual fruit stand located on the Friesian isle of Texel.

Stop sign, Amsterdam style

I have searched all over this small flat land for a stop sign and they just don't seem to exist anymore. There are traffic lights and roundabouts but mostly on the smaller intersections people obey the rule of the right (directionally speaking, of course) -- the person on the right side has right of way. A 4-lane major road will have to yield to a tiny blind entrance if it's on the right. This rule is also valid for bikes, as I found out once to my chagrin. This stop light is on my intersection, I live about 10 meters behind where I stood to take this photo.

P.S. I actually did see one stop sign, but it was at a gas station on the interstate and we flew by it so I didn't think I could beg to go back.
